Terrible Experience with Siteground -- Stay away!

The Siteground.com hosting was definitely a "bait and switch". They offered a low price hosting service ($10 year); then refused to stop auto payments at $109 per year at end of the service term. I regularly received charges that I didn't expect. And, when you try to leave, they inflict additional charges. I had to resort to placing a "bad" credit card on the site; which requires an active credit card -- no Paypal allowed. But I got caught, when I tried to renew a site I did want. Now, I can't get my valid card off their records. I will have to change banks to get away from Siteground.

BIG SCAM! Stay away from Siteground.com

Biggest Pro: NONE -- many other services offer better plans
Biggest Con: Refusal to left you leave without dumping extraneous exit charges on you. I see class action lawsuits in their future.

Response by Lilyana Yakimova, who is an employee of SiteGround:

Hello Stafford Battle,

The $9.95 Hosting offer you mention, is valid for the first year of hosting and gives customers the chance to test our services. With this offer you only pay $9.95 and get one year of hosting plus a domain registered especially for you, and we pay for this domain name for the entire time you stay with us. If after the first year the customer is satisfied with us and wants to stay with us, he or she pays the regular hosting fees. The terms of this promotion are clearly stated in our Term of Use.

As I see you have purchased ca. 10 accounts from this promotion. If you think that the regular fees are too high for you, you can transfer your websites away or cancel some or all of them. You can easily do that from the Billing section in your account. You can decide if you want to cancel immediately or at expiration date. If you want to transfer your website away, you have to pay for the domain name, that we purchase for you at sign up. Please note that the domain alone costs more than the $9.95 that you pay initially.

If you think that you have been charged for something you did not order, please contact our Billing department through your User Area and they will investigate the case.

Be very very carefull at the end of the hosting period

Siteground is like that: Gentleman at the beginning, Gentleman during the journey (at least with me it was) and rude at the end (at least with me they were).
I've cancelled the webhosting with them (www.birminghamadvice.com) and I've received some email warning that "your account is about to expire, you'll lose all of your site contents if you don't renew...bla-bla...). Obviously I took no action as I wanted to cancel the account anyway so I rest assured the cancelation is under way. On the day of expiration big surprise: one email message thanks me for renewal of my hosting account with Siteground! So, for no action at my end Siteground has managed to pull out my credit card details and renew the account for me!! I got mad as I don’t like anyone to use my credit card details without my permission. I’ve got in touch with my brother in law which happen to be a barrister and advised me to write to them and ask for an immediate refund or I’ll open legal action against their hosting company. I was lucky because I used to keep every piece of correspondence with them. With this occasion I’ve been refunded the money but I really disliked the way they understand to do business.
Technical support: I’ll be totally honest with you, they were very supportive on this matter. The truth is that I didn’t have problems with my sites and with one occasion when I really messed up with the web content of my site they have managed to fix it quick.
One warning though: be very careful at the way your account is renewed as by default this is set to be renewed at expiration. You have to request the cancellation via Billing Panel and then confirm again by email. If you don’t do that you can end up with your account renewed for another year and a large bill for that.

Biggest Pro: technical support, cpanel, web knowledge, cheap offers at the beginning
Biggest Con: billing, unauthorised used of your billing details

Worst web hosting in the world

Recently I Purchased shared hosting for my website in siteground....i contacted the chat support even twice for some queries...Those guys told that u can host unlimited addon domains, but after the payment get over im shocked with their fraud plan...each addon domains cost $30 per year and also $24 setup fee..the chat support is just liers and fake....They are cheaters, stoling customer money with cunning tricks and hidden fees...the server load time is also not that much good, these guys didnt show web host features clearly, this is what they do to cheat customers... so stay away from them...dont host website with them....they are **** cheaters

Siteground bait and switched to get signup then would not cancel

I needed vbulletin hosting and found their website- the language said "100% turnkey need nothing else" so I signed up and paid their one year of hosting fee. Come to find out it was not 100% turnkey - as they did not provide the vbulletin and I would need to buy the license. Once I found that out with the salesman I immediately cnacelled the account- within 1 hour of the purchase- Now it has been 1 year later and they not only did not cancel the account but htey were trying to charge my CC again- after repeated emails they finally agreed to give back 75% and keep the rest as a cancellation fee - Stay away total rip-off!

Website hacked and siteground provides inadequate support

Firstly, this review is for those kind of sites that enjoy a really high traffic and organic search rankings.

My site runs on Wordpress, hosted with Siteground and I discovered that the db was hacked into on the 9th of Feb, this morning. Upon contacting siteground I was told to:

1) Restore DD/Back up
2) Request a site audit

What's strange is the fact that you have to PAY for using either of these services. Thankfully I had a backup of my DB was able to get my site up and running.

The question that remains though is, as a web hosting provider it is the prerogative of Siteground to assist customers who have been victims of hacking. Instead of offering help, Siteground jumped at the opportunity to make more money through stupid services without actually focusing on resolving the issue.

I'm through and through with siteground, where firstly their support system just lists a bunch of questions and leaves no room for 'Other Queries' type of issues.

Thanks for nothing siteground.

Biggest Pro: Website Transfer
Biggest Con: Be sure to spend money on every little thing.

Siteground Is A Scam!!!

" Siteground Is A Scam!!! I signed up for the service and was promised help in getting the site going. Nothing on the site has ever been functionable. I wasted many hours and money trying to figure out things myself. Followed all the instructions and reported that nothing would work. All I heard was excuses. They have taken my money and offered no service or resolution to these issues. I feel that this is a scam site and warn any one from payiong for a service that mis represents. If you read positive reviews then it is by people who work for this company! All They Care About Is Getting Your Money! Beware This Is A Rip Off!!! "

Biggest Con: No help ever!!!!

Was blind but now I see…

Although the plans are appealing, and all seems simple enough once you’re a customer for 3-4 years you start noticing the horrible policies and overwhelming pricing that other companies refrain from charging. The support for the sales team is amazing - the technical support on the other hand is non-existent. All I suggest is that you read all of their policies, otherwise a few years down the road you will be trapped.

Since moving to my new host, I have more freedom, more space, and more money in my wallet.

Biggest Pro: Plan Deals
Biggest Con: Hidden Costs

Siteground failures in billing support and cancelations

First thing I have been cancelling accounts with them for over a year and still they popup and charge me even after getting the confirmation email and chatting with cancelation support people.

I will be honest I never had bad hosting with them just the autorenewal which is not in the terms and the one year option is a fraud even they all autorenewal.
They only support through helpdesk tickets online and chat if you can get ahold of someone, phones will just send you to voicemail or disconnect you.
Cacelation process is buried along with the so called terms they specify which actually do not show up until you try to cancel, not in the original documents.

Best option for anyone is to cancel the charges and file a complaint.
Anyone interested in civil action I already have enough to follow up with the civil attourneys according to the corporate attourneys I work with.
Just post here and we will work out the details.

Biggest Pro: hosting was always stable
Biggest Con: be prepared to be auto charged to death and never able to cancel and given excuses as to why they won't reimburse you.

What customer service?????????????????????

As a previuous review stated, watch out for the auto renewal..... Had sites that don't even exist renewed and I got charged alot of $$$$ by siteground. The fun really started when I tried to talk to someone about this..... The customer support/service department is HORRIBLE!!! Can not say it enough. HORRIBLE! Called and was told there was nothing I could do, and no one higher up to talk to. I asked for a manager or supervisor and was told "I could not talk to either. I had to send email or fill out a help ticket!" Why the customer service phone #, I have no idea. Probably to try and sign you up for more stuff.

Took almost a week to get someone to offer me a partial refund. Can't say it enough.....pick another company to host with. This company doesn't care about there customers AT ALL!!!!! I will be moving my 10+ accounts to another company who cares about their customers.

Biggest Pro: uptime
Biggest Con: everything else - customer service is no existant. Horrible!!!!! Beware!!

SiteGround is the BEST hosting

I have used many different hosting and ended at Siteground.com
They are a little higher on price for domain names .. but if you plan to host your website i couldnt say anyone compares to siteground. they offer a great price and offer great hosting. The best part about SiteGround.com is that there support is by far the best they are fast if i have a problem with anything they always fix or answer my question in less then 4 minutes and most of the time it only takes one minute.
When I first started hosting at SiteGround.com I did not know one thing about websites Because of there help I now know more then I ever thought I would!

Biggest Pro: The Best Hosting and Support
Biggest Con: No Cons for hosting
